Marenje are different types of ceremonies. You might hold a ceremony for the mashavi spirits, and you might hold a ceremony for the vadzimu ancestral spirits. You might hold another, different type of ceremony that you wish to perform. So when we say marenje, it refers to any of the different types of ceremonies. Some of them are held in the forest, like the one we perform for eating the first maize we harvest; that is a ceremony performed in the forest. The ceremony asking for rain is also held in the forest. Those ceremonies are called marenje.
