Performed by Tute Chigamba, from the album Yangu Ndega
“Mahororo” (Chastening), they said that as people were migrating, when it came time to cross the Zambezi, they failed to ford the river. Then a woman named Ambuya Ganyire struck the Zambezi with her cloth, and the waters parted. Some went to one side, and some to the other, and then the people passed through. There was no more water, and they passed by, and they crossed. That is how they entered into Zimbabwe. So Ambuya Ganyire is the one who chastened them all, meaning that she bested the men. The men had failed to figure out what to do. And then she struck the waters. So she chastened them by proving herself to be the best woman, who figured out how people could cross.
