“Chakwi” is a song for the mashave spirits. Among the mashave spirits there are those called achakwi, and hosho is played for those spirits. The hosho will be saying, “cha-kwi, cha-kwi, cha-kwi, cha-kwi.” So those are the very type of mashave known as anachakwi. So they took those songs, and then they brought about that song called “Chakwi.” But it is a song for those mashave, for those anachakwi.
The machakwi are mashave from the water. Yes, from the water. And there also, for the mbira to be played, it is said that it was first heard on a rock, in the ocean.
