Three of Mutota’s children went to Mozambique, and only one of them returned. One went to Malawi, and one went to Goa, in India. I believe it was about four hundred years ago when he went. So he was the first person to learn Portuguese.
When Mutota’s son learned Portuguese they took him to live in Goa. Goa is a land near India. From Goa, we traverse the Indian Ocean and arrive here. I believe it was ruled by the Portuguese, because he left Mozambique with them. Then they took him to Goa, and he remained there.
So Mutota’s children who stayed here retained his kingship. And the last to rule was Mapondera. Mapondera was made king, and he fought with the whites as they were arriving. Mapondera caused them a lot of trouble. So he was the last to exercise Mutota’s rule.
