Performed by Tute Chigamba, from the album Yangu Ndega
“Mandarendare” is about people shoving each other, and pushing each other around. It isn’t a fight, but you are shoving each other, “Hey, you! You!” “Hey you! You!” “You! You! You!”
If you play “Mandarendare,” those people will take note, and hear, “Oh, over there a beautiful song is being played. What shall we do?” Then they’ll say to each other, “Hey, you, pay attention and listen!” “Hey, you, pay attention and listen!” They’ve left off what they were doing. Now, they are listening to the mbira being played. So that is mandarendare.
