“Morobhia,” groundbow song performed by Sekuru Compound Muradzikwa
Sekuru Compound Muradzikwa was born in 1943 in Buhera. During his youth, he learned to play the mouth-resonated chipendani musical bow from his grandfather. While herding cattle he also played the groundbow, which he knew by the name dzikamunhenga. Shortly before Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, Sekuru Muradzikwa began working as a security guard at Imire Game Park. For the next three decades, Sekuru Muradzikwa regularly played chipendani for guests at Imire’s Sable Lodge. In 2002, he also constructed a dzikamunhenga groundbow, which he continued to play until retiring from Imire in 2010.
