Sekuru Chigamba moved to the nation’s capital in 1962, after working as a migrant laborer on a series of white-owned commercial farms. Shortly thereafter, he began attending ceremonies where the mbira dzavadzimu, rather than the njari typical of his home region of Guruve, played a primary role. Soon, he began to play mbira dzavadzimu, marking the start of a lifelong career.
